Common to Join Obama for Chicago Rally
President Barack Obama will be making an appearance in Chicago, Illinois this Saturday, Oct. 30th for a political rally ahead of the midterm elections the following week. Rapper-actor Common is joining him for the rally at Hyde Park and Midway Plaisance Park.
This isn’t the first time that Common has campaigned for Obama. Before Obama became President, Common told CNN that in many ways Obama represents hip hop: “He’s fresh, you know, he’s got good style…. As far as people in my age group and people that love hip-hop, there’s a love for Obama. He represents progress. He represents what hip-hop is about. Hip-hop is about progress, the struggle.”
Obama has certainly embraced hip hop and its artists. The Roots took part in a recent Pennsylvania rally and rumors have been spreading that Jay-Z will campaign for Obama’s re-election campaign.
Obama’s also a fan of hip hop. He told Rolling Stone recently that Lil Wayne is one of the hip hop artists he listens to on his Ipod.
