Drake’s Recovery Could Take Nearly A Year

Earlier, we told you about rap sensation Drake falling on stage while performing Friday night, due to an aggravated ACL injury.

Shortly after, he took to Twitter, with the message: “All is well…on the bus laying down…getting surgery this week but I’m walking. Thank my whole YM family for the help! Lion Hearts!”

But what exactly is an ACL injury, you ask? Here’s the low-down, according to the Mayo Clinic:

Most ACL tears occur during sports, such as basketball, football, soccer and skiing. Typically the ligament tears when you slow down suddenly or cut or pivot with your foot firmly planted, twisting or overextending the knee. Landing awkwardly from a jump also is a frequent cause of ACL injury.  … When you tear your ACL, you may feel or hear a pop in the knee, feel significant pain in the knee and have immediate swelling. When you try to stand and put weight on the injured leg, the knee may give way and feel unstable.

Injuries to the ACL are among the most common of all sports-related knee injuries. It’s estimated that each year in the United States between 100,000 and 200,000 people — roughly about one in every 3,000 people — sustain a ruptured or torn ACL.

A New Jersey-based orthopedic surgeon tells HListed it could take up to nine months of physical therapy before Drake is able to regain his normal range of mobility.
