We are starting to understand why LeBron appeared so distracted during the Celtics series. Rumors are circulating that LeBron found out before Game 4 that his mother, Gloria James, had been having an affair with one of his teammates, Delonte West.
We did some digging on this story this morning. A VERY reliable source close to the team tells us that the rumors are not only true, but that the revelation of the affair caused James and his teammates a great deal of distress during the Celtics series. Our source tells us that

LeBron allegedly found out about the affair after overhearing a conversation between his mother and West. He later confronted his mother who confirmed that she had been intimate with his teammate.
Given this news, our guess is that the chances of LeBron leaving the Cleveland Cavs in July when he becomes a free agent are mighty high. Either that or we wouldn’t be surprised if he demanded that the Cavs find a way to get rid of West, who is not scheduled to be a free agent until after the 2010-11 season.
We want to know how you think this alleged affair should impact whether LeBron stays in Cleveland or not.
Loading ...UPDATE 5.19.10 Yesterday, LeBron’s lawyer sent a cease and desist letter to website Terezowens.com who first published news of the alleged affair between LeBron’s mother Gloria and his teammate, Delonte West. Here are excerpts from the lawyer’s note to the site who, like us, stands behind their source and original reporting on this rumor:
“I am writing to demand that you Cease and Desist in repeating the lies you have been instrumental in spreading regarding Gloria James. They are categorically false and per se defamatory.”
“At first blush, your irresponsible speculation about what might have contributed to the Cavaliers performance in the Boston series was so idiotic and “off the wall” that we did not think that it even warranted a denial. No thinking person could believe such rubbish.”
