Haute List: Mel Gibson Called Out, T-Mobile Discontinues Sidekick, And Calvin Richardson Returns

Check out our list of what’s “haute” and what’s not.

1) Mel Gibson Gets Called Out!

We love it when a publication CALLS OUT a celebrity for misbehaving. Entertainment Weekly recently published a list of groups who have “incurred the wrath” of Mel Gibson:

Women
Gays
Hispanics
African-Americans
Jewish people
Non-Catholics
Female Priests
Bill Clinton
Frank Rich
Rhodes Scholars

Shame on him.

2. Sezmi Offers New and Affordable Alternative For Cable Service

If you’re anything like us,  you’re tired of  paying high cable bills every month! A new company, Sezmi, is looking to come to the rescue.

Buy their $149.99 unit and you can subscribe to get local TV channels, web videos, podcasts and thousands of on-demand TV shows and movies for only $4.99. For their Sezmi Select service you will get cable channels like MTV, Bravo, CNN, USA, and VH1 for ONLY an additional $19.99 a month.

Is this new service too good to be true? We haven’t tried this out for ourselves, but when and if we do, we will be sure to report back. Is there a catch? So far, the only catch we’ve found is that it doesn’t have some of the channels we watch regularly (like BET and TV One).

3. Calvin Richardson Is Back!

Calvin Richardson is plotting a comeback. His first release off of his forthcoming album is the song, “You’re So Amazing” that has started heating up the airwaves across the country. We’ve been a fan of Calvin’s music since his first album, Country Boy.

We love the new song and hope you will, too. Take a listen here:

4. T-Mobile FINALLY Discontinues the Sidekick

T-Mobile announced it will no longer sell the Sidekick LX or Sidekick 2008, though it will continue to support customers who use them. This news is long overdue. We were one of the Sidekick users who were victims of their major server issue last year. :(

The Sidekick became the “must-have” phone a few years ago made famous by Paris Hilton (an early adopter). Her Sidekick was hacked into and her address book was published online. Last October (2009) the brand suffered a fatal blow after a server issue caused users’ personal data to be erased from nearly 800,000 Sidekicks.

The Sidekick was made by a subsidiary of Microsoft, Danger, who is now working on a Windows Phone 7.
