Jimmy Kimmel Declares Today National Unfriend Day on Facebook
Late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel has declared today, November 17th, National Unfriend Day (NUD). Kimmel is hoping that this will inspire Facebook users everywhere to unfriend everyone except their real friends. So why is he leading this movement? Kimmel says that by making it so easy to “friend” and “unfriend” people, Facebook has cheapened the meaning of friendship.
According to Kimmel’s website:
“NUD is the international day when all Facebook users shall protect the sacred nature of friendship by cutting out any ‘friend fat’ on their pages occupied by people who are not truly their friends,” according to the show’s website.
And Kimmel himself echoes the sentiment saying that this is an opportunity to: “Cut out some of the friend fat in your life.”
So if you’ve been looking for an excuse to unfriend people on Facebook, now you have one. Will you unfriend people today?
