Katt Calls Arrest: “A Witch Hunt”
According to Baller Status:
Comedian Katt Williams is at it again. He was reportedly detained and questioned by police in Newnan, Georgia on Friday (December 4) after they received a disturbance call at a local Walmart.
According to the Newnan Times-Herald, Newnan Police Department were dispatched to the scene at the Newnan Crossing East center after someone called 911 to report that a man had a gun in the parking lot.
When authorities, they reportedly seized firearms found at the scene belonging to Williams.Police Chief Douglas L. “Buster” Meadows said authorities believe that Shirley and Tony Williams — the mother and brother of Katt Williams’ girlfriend, Yolanda — confronted the comedian at the Walmart because they were “concerned about [Yolanda's] welfare”.
Both Shirley and Tony were ultimately charged with disorderly conduct, and another person at the scene, Lilly James, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.
While Katt was detained, thrown in the back of a squad car for questions, he was charged with a crime as of press time.
“We checked some firearms and they were returned to Katt Williams,” Meadows told the paper. “We’re still unclear whether there was a gun pulled on someone or not. Three people have been arrested, and as far as I know that will be the end of it.”
Katt Williams’ tractor trailer, which was parked at Walmart, was searching, but nothing illegal was found.
Since Friday, Williams has addressed the incident, saying he was not at fault, and called the police attention a “witch hunt.”
“This guy’s saying he’s her boyfriend and he’s brought his family with him,” Williams explained to local news station Action News 2. “Now one of them has a holster and a pocket full of bullets and a pistol. So I tell them, let’s step outside. Once they get me outside and there’s six of them and one of me. Then all of a sudden, they calling the sheriff to tell the sheriff I got guns and I’m the problem?
“This is a witch hunt, it’s getting to the point where I feel like I’m being persecuted because this don’t make no sense. You can’t act like I’m a trouble maker. I been here for two months, I ain’t been to a club yet,” he continued.
