Monica Says She Left Twitter Because of a Stalker

When Monica quit Twitter last month, she led fans to believe it was because too many people were hating on her and her life. This was what she tweeted to announce her departure:

“Hey there. I want to thank all of you who have been so supportive of myself & family for so many years. I hate to say this but I will no longer be on Twitter. I love the fact that I am able to speak to my REAL supporters but it has also become a way for people to do malicious things, when my sole intent was to spread positivity. I love you guys dearly and will find ways to stay in touch. i have dear friends on Twitter and team Monica will make sure you have all information on dates etc. Again I love u guys. But this is better for the protection of my children, my family, fiance and fans. Too much is being said that I didn’t say and for a person that believes so strongly in being 100 at all times. I just can’t do it. I will see you guys very soon… I LOVE U… Take care .”

Now the singer is revealing that it wasn’t haters that led her to quit the social media network but a stalker. In an interview on WPGC 95.5’s “The Big Tigger Morning Show” she said: “I quit Twitter for a way deeper reason…. At first we couldn’t really talk about it, but we had a way more serious situation than just somebody saying something on Twitter. And legally we couldn’t really talk about it at the time. It was just suggested. OK, come off Twitter, find out who some of these people are… It was not anybody on Twitter. It was someone keeping up with me through Twitter.”

Monica explained that this stalker has been around awhile: “It’s been going on for years long before Twitter, but they were using Twitter as a tool to keep up with me.”

“Some people thought it was something that someone said to me on Twitter,” explained Monica. “It was absolutely nothing like that. People have talked about and been cruel toward me and ever other artist long before Twitter came about, so it would never be something as simple as something that somebody said.”

Scary stuff.
