Oprah Comforts Dr. OZ After Scary Health Diagnosis
Oprah Winfrey not only produces Dr. Oz’s TV show, but she’s also proven to be a good friend to the Doctor behind the scenes. Recently Dr. Mehmet Oz got some bad news after a colonoscopy revealed a precancerous polyp (growth) on his colon.
Dr. Oz tells People.com that he called Oprah right after his diagnosis: “I talked to Oprah about this right after the colonoscopy results came back…. Her main question, classic Oprah, was, ‘I don’t care about this stuff. Are you okay? That’s the bigger question.’ It’s all about how do you deal with the rough waters you hit? This was a storm that came over the horizon.”
The Tv doctor shares that his diagnosis encouraged Oprah to go get a colonoscopy especially considering that early diagnosis is important to preventing it turning into cancer. Dr. Oz shares that early diagnosis is key and that even those with no family history of cancer should be tested: “If even I, someone who has no risk factors or family history, and who eats healthy and exercises, could have an adenomatous polyp, it could happen to anyone…. Early detection is the best way to catch these before they turn into colon cancer,” he says. “I’m damn lucky I got checked out.”
