Oprah To Move Her Show To New Network?
According to Sister 2 Sister Magazine:
The days of Oprah being the best thing on daytime network television are coming to a close. Deadline.com is reporting that Oprah’s finally ready to move her popular program, “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” to the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) when her contract with ABC expires in 2012.
OWN is a joint venture between Oprah and Discovery Communications. It was supposed to launch in place of the Discovery Health Channel, but has been regularly pushed back. Sources in Oprah’s camp confirmed that Discovery told Oprah her time is up and that if she doesn’t make plans to bring the show to their network, she could risk losing the deal, which already guarantees her network in 70 million homes.
The blog predicts that Oprah’s folks will reveal the news in the coming days, along with the bombshell that Lady O is moving her empire from Chicago to Los Angeles, as early as 2011.
“In all honesty, we have not heard she’s made a decision yet whether to continue,” an insider at CBS, Oprah’s distribution company, told the Web site. “We think we’re still in the talking stages. To our minds, it’s a non-decision.”
Officially, Oprah still needs to meet with the network’s people. She’s known for renegotiating her contracts to suit her needs and for her constant threat that she’s retiring soon, so some say this is just talk.
