Oprah’s Last Show Brings in 16.4 Million Viewers; Harpo Announces Layoffs
According to Nielsen ratings, the final episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show garnered an astounding 16.4 million viewers.
Oprah hasn’t seen those kind of ratings in more than 18 years. Back in 1993 an episode she did called, “Why I Love Older Women” was watched by 17.3 million viewers.
So what’s next for the queen of talk? Winfrey is reportedly taking a long vacation before turning her attention to her fledgling OWN Network, which has struggled in building audience since it’s January debut.
She is expected to launch a new show, “Oprah’s Next Chapter” on the network in 2012.
Meanwhile, Oprah’s company Harpo has announced they plan on laying off an unspecified number of employees in the near future. As of last year, Harpo employed more than 400 full and part-time staff members.
