Paula’s Paltry Salary A Matter Of Sexism?
With Simon Cowell making well above $30 million a year for his work on American Idol, some are blaming sexism for Paula Abdul’s much less, as reported, $2 million salary.
Adbul’s management reportedly wanted to raise her annual take-home pay to as much as $12 million. But Idol producers balked, and Abdul quit.
As added perspective, host Ryan Seacrest recently signed a $45 million deal — for both his work on Idol and for other projects with the network.
But as details surrounding Abdul’s departure emerge, networks are knocking down rumors about the “Straight Up” star popping up at other judges’ tables. According to The Hollywood Reporter:
NBC on Wednesday denied reports Abdul would join “America’s Got Talent” as a judge. Fox denied that she was invited to be a judge on “So You Think You Can Dance.” And an ABC rep said she had not been approached about being a judge on “Dancing With the Stars” or any other program.
