Prince Announces ‘Welcome 2 America’ Tour and Special Guests
Prince held a press conference yesterday (Thursday) to announce his new tour, “Welcome 2 America.” The Purple One also announced that his fans should “come early and come often” because each show will be different and he rattled off a roster of supporting acts including Janelle Monae, Maceo Parker, Mint Condition, Lalah Hathaway, Sheila E., Esperanza Spalding, and Cassandra Wilson.
The notoriously private and secretive musician did not announce specific dates or venues only saying, “We’re here in New York to announce a series of events that will begin on a purple day in December 2010.”
“He had more advice for his fans:
“I’ve got lots of hits….Bring footspray ’cause it’s gonna be funky.”
Prince says the tour will officially launch “on a purple day in December” of this year. The last time Prince went on a tour was back in 2004.
