Tyler Perry To Adapt Colored Girls
According to Reuters.com:
Tyler Perry will adapt the 1975 play “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf” as a feature film.
The play, by Ntozake Shange, is structured as a series of poems spoken by female characters, addressing issues of love, abandonment, rape and abortion. It was adapted into a 1982 television movie.
Perry aims to gather an all-star cast of female actors for the film, which Lionsgate plans to release in 2010. Perry will write, direct and produce the movie, the first project for his new production shingle, 34th Street Pictures, which has a deal with Lionsgate. It will also be his first film not based on his own work.
The prolific Perry’s latest movie, “Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All My Myself,” opens September 11. Next up is the April release of “Tyler Perry’s Why Did I Get Married Too?”
“Colored Girls” will be his 10th project under this deal with Lionsgate.
