This Friday, we were in attendance as BMI toasted the BET Awards and the accomplishments of their BET nominated artists with a private party at Phillippe Chow in Los Angeles co-hosted by the Stereotypes, August Rigo, and the Alpine Entertainment Group.
In attendance to celebrate were a myriad of stars including Drake, Birdman, Ray J, Brandy, NeNe Leakes, Chris Tucker, Busta Rhymes, Flo Rida, Vanessa and Angela Simmons, and BET Chairman and CEO Debra Lee.
DJ Ruckus was on the ones and twos all evening spinning the nominated artists’ hits and keeping the crowd hype.
We caught up with Ray J and Rodney Jerkins on the red carpet for the event. They have been hard at work on Ray J’s new album and gave us the following sneak preview:

We also spoke to BMI’s Vice President of Urban Music, Catherine Brewton (pictured right with Drake) and got her thoughts on the importance of the event.
We also asked her to describe the current state of urban music.
