(Video) Robin Roberts Talks to Gayle King About Chris Brown Interview

Posted at 03/23/2011 by 2 Comments

ABC News GMA anchor Robin Roberts gave an interview to Gayle King about her contentious interview with Chris Brown that ended with the singer destroying his dressing room and breaking a window.

Roberts says that while she didn’t think the interview went well, she did not expect him to become so enraged about her asking about Rihanna that he would respond in the way that he did.

Roberts said she thought Brown was joking at first when he was being evasive during their interview, especially since she felt as though she was bringing something up that was actually in his favor (the relaxing of the restraining order):

“I wasn’t trying to go back down memory lane and rehash every detail of what happened two years ago… that wasn’t anything that was in my mind.”

King said she was surprised and disappointed that Brown seemed to want to gloss over what was a very serious incident by saying that he was “over that situation” and that he did so nonchalantly. Roberts admitted that it was his nonchalant reaction that urged her to give him another opportunity to address her original question:

“I was trying to engage him in his album… and because of his reaction… it led to a follow up that I would not have done… but based on his reaction to the interview and just his demeanor in that and people at home were saying ‘wait a minute that was pretty serious’… because we have such a good relationship and we have invited him back onto the program and he is seriously considering doing that…”

She also admits that she feels for Brown and understands that he has worked really hard to rehab his image and that she doesn’t want to see him suffer this setback.

Roberts says that she didn’t know he had erupted until after the show when GMA staffers informed her of his outburst. She also shares that GMA had no intention of making Brown’s behavior public and was surprised to see it pop up on TMZ.

Roberts also makes the point that celebrities can’t expect not to be asked questions about their past:

“I can be doing an interview and people will talk about cancer that I had 3 years ago… There are always things in our lives that are good and bad.. that are milestones that people want to discuss that are significant…. I really thought that chris was going to do that as he had done with me in the past and I feel very bad that he had that kind of reaction.”

There are more people behind Chris Brown than you think. That is your opinion he took the past casually, I think he was trying to get you all to see this was his past and he does not have to keep going around beating his self up or look like a sick puppy so you all can say oh wow look he is remorseful!!! I am totally against what he did in his past but it is just that his pass… drop it. I am so happy a lot of radio shows keep promoting his records and will not let this interview that is obviously reverting back to his past that caused his outburst. Go Chris!!! We are behind you!!! not your outburst but your music and your success and against interviewers who don’t own up to digging in peoples past and those media figures who try to stand by their side. Don’t get me wrong I have always loved and still do robin roberts but let this be a lesson… let people move on. Also Gayle, please learn that people do not need to go around with their head hanging down for past mistakes and yes he had a right to say I am over it… because he should be!!! Just like any of your past mistakes or wrong doings.
