Pres. Obama: “We Need Fathers To Step Up”

(Obama-Biden Transition Team)
In the most recent issue of Parade Magazine to run in print on Father’s Day tomorrow, President Obama pens an essay calling for fathers around the country to step up and take responsibility for their children.
The President writes, “As fathers, we need to be involved in our children’s lives not just when it’s convenient or easy, and not just when they’re doing well—but when it’s difficult and thankless, and they’re struggling. That is when they need us most.”
He adds later in the essay that he learned the most about fatherhood through his own absentee dad saying, “That is why we need fathers to step up, to realize that their job does not end at conception; that what makes you a man is not the ability to have a child but the courage to raise one.”
This isn’t the first time the President has addressed issues of parenting in Parade Magazine. Two days before his Presidential Inauguration in January of this year, the magazine published an open letter Mr. Obama wrote to his daughters Sasha and Malia, expressing his love for them and why becoming President would help him change the lives of other children.
