What Should Happen To Neverland?

Following his acquittal of child molestation charges, Michael Jackson vowed never to return to Neverland saying that the police searches conducted there as part of the child molestation case against him were a violation and he could never consider it home again.

In late 2008, after falling behind in payments for the ranch, Jackson entered into a joint venture with Colony Capital LLC to preserve ownership of the ranch. Colony Capital reportedly took on more than $24.5 million in debt that Jackson had accrued on the property.  Many who have been to the ranch say it had fallen into a state of disrepair since Jackson abandoned it in 2005.

Still, Neverland has remained a destination for fans who have flocked there in droves in recent weeks to mourn the loss of the King of Pop. Some members of Michael’s own family believe that Neverland should be Michael’s final resting place. Jermaine Jackson told NBC Today Show host Matt Lauer that Neverland would be  a fitting burial place since Michael once loved it there so much. Others say that it should be rehabilitated and turned into a Graceland of sorts to honor Michael Jackson.

According to People.com no decision has been made about what will happen with Neverland Ranch:

Since Jackson’s death, the holding company that bought the 2,500-acre estate last year out of foreclosure for $23.5 million hasn’t officially announced what it’s going to do with Neverland, save for watering the plants, repairing the buildings and keeping the gawkers at bay.

“We are still doing renovations and rehabilitation to the property and I think it has a ways to go,” says a source at the holding company, Colony Capital LLC. “As far as I know, absolutely no decisions have been made about the property and there is no urgency to make any decisions. Right now we are trying to return the place to its original luster.”

But the source says nothing is off the table, including opening Neverland to the public.
