Wyclef Steps Down From Yele Haiti, Owes IRS More Than $2.1 Million
Wyclef announced today that he will step down as leader of his organization, Yele Haiti. The musician says his decision should not call into question his dedication to his home country of Haiti:
“I am not stepping down in my commitment to Haiti. On the contrary, regardless of what path I take next, one thing is certain: My focus on helping Haiti turn a new corner will only grow stronger.”
Wyclef is expected to formally declare his candidacy today when he travels to Haiti to officially file the necessary paperwork for his run for President of the earthquake ravaged country.
The Smoking Gun reported today that Wyclef owes more than $2.1 million in back taxes to the US government.
